I'm delighted to announce that I will be speaking at the next ITI Conference on 4-5 June in Edinburgh.

The theme is 'New world, new work' and the title of my talk is:

​

Raising the bar: representing women in sport as an audiovisual translator

​

This talk is aimed at practitioners within the area of translation and subtitling, as well as those who are looking to expand their expertise. 

​

I will discuss how I got into translating and subtitling for sports events and uncover some of the joys and challenges involved in this area.

​

I will review, with examples, whether MT can assist in quickly transcribing and translating speech, comparing this to human translation.

​

My presentation will look at how the rise in the broadcasting and dissemination of women’s sports could influence and increase career opportunities for translators, subtitlers and proofreaders.

​

Finally, I will explore our role to translate for high-profile women’s sports events, allowing the message from women athletes to be brought to the fore, to enable an understanding of the needs, aspirations and challenges of women and girls, inspiring development and change within the sports industry.
